It was a long time coming, but we finally got our holiday photos done. As I address and stamp the last holiday card, I thought I would share just what my family did to get ready for our photos.
First off, let me start by saying that these photos were almost a month in the making. They were supposed to include my sister and both Grammy and GMa, but due to wardrobe, it ended up being just me, my husband and son. These photos were originally scheduled the weekend after Thanksgiving, but plans fell through when family emergencies became priority. I let a few weeks pass and then realized we didn’t have much time to get these cards done and in the mail. A friend and fellow UTK Alum, Tiffany, promoted a holiday special to do photos, and I jumped on the chance to get some outdoor photos done. If you are in the Houston area, I highly recommend checking her out. Her Instagram handle is here. I wanted to do red as a base color, so I went and found a red and black shirt for Mason from Children’s Place. I love their clothes for Mason, and their sales are pretty good for toddler / baby clothes. This was my first time buying Mason a whole 2T outfit. He is officially in toddler clothes! Time slow down lol! My husband was able to find a shirt in buffalo plaid at Gap, and I found my cute “Very Merry Mama” sweatshirt at Pink Lily.
My husband made sure to get a fresh haircut, and I made sure Mason was freshly braided up for the occasion. The real question of the day was what was Kelz going to do with her hair!?!?! I had recently gotten a silk press, deep condition and trim with my girl Naomi! She is a Fresno hair stylist that specializes in sew ins, weave, natural hair, and relaxed hair. She is a sweetheart and always gets me right when I sit in her chair! Book with her! Now, of course, you know I ride my peloton bike everyday, so straight hair and workouts didn’t last too long. By the day before my photos, I had switched to a braid out on my straightened hair. The photos below was my go to style while trying to maintain my stretched hair and working out. I would braid in 2 braids to work out then take down the braids to style for work.
I figured for the photos, I wanted volume but a curl, so I did curls all over on my stretched hair. I could have went back in with a flat iron and gave it a more straight look, but I wanted the fullness and body of old workout hair. Humidity is not my friend here in Houston, so the curls were on a time crunch, but I actually loved the end result and how it came out in the photos. I did not use any products on my hair except African herbal oil the night before curling to tame little frizz I had.

Check out our final photos! I definitely need to go buy frames galore, cause I want ALL of these hanging up in my house somewhere!
Happy Holidays from my family to yours! See you in 2021!
